In Ancient Greece, each city-state was governed a different way, especially Sparta and Athens. They had the biggest difference in government.
In Sparta, two rulers were responsible for Sparta and the purpose of that was one of the men watched and made sure the other man was acting responsibly and gentlemanly. Also in Sparta, the present ruler picked the future ruler and usually it was a relative of them.
In Athens, the wealthy men of Athens were the only ones allowed to vote. Athens was the only city in Greece that allowed their citizens to vote in a system called democracy. This was unlike Sparta or any other state. Slaves or women were not allowed to vote and Greece was the only country that used the democracy system.

Olives were very important to the Greeks because the olives were not only used to eat but for olive oil, soap and shampoo. Olives were important because of all the things you could do with them.

Greek Theatre
Drama was one of the Greeks greatest inventions. It settled them down and entertained them.
During acting, if the actors did a poor job, the audience would either throw food or stones at the bad performances. If you looked from above the Greek theatre, it would look like a semi-circle with bleachers and a stage and a back stage. They could fit as many as 15 000 at capactiy.

In Greece homes were used to keep the people warm in the winter and cool in the summer. In the homes the woman of the house set aside a room for the men of the house and a room for the women of the house.
The women's room was called a Gynaikon and the men's room was called an Andron. usually the oldest woman of the house would be the boss of the house and she had the right to kick a man or woman out because of Miss-behavior.

Greek Education
The future of a Greek child only depends on its father. If its father decides it is a bad child he will leave him on top of a mountain. If it was a good child the father and mother would raise it to be a normal Greek. Greek kids learned pretty much the same subjects that we take.
For example the Greeks take math, architecture, poetry, social, L.A. and science as their core subjects. Greek teachers were often very strict with the kind of behaviour going on in their classroom. If the children refused to listen the teacher would send them home.
In Sparta, children started military training at age seven and in all of Ancient Greece the poor children would not have to go to school because helping their families around the house was more important those days.

Greek Olympics
The Greeks decided to invent something that involved entertainment. Everyone thought the Greeks needed more entertainment. So the Greeks decided to invent the Olympic games. In the Olympic games, the Greeks did events like shot put, triple jump and wrestling. Those were the top three most popular events.
In Ancient Greece all the Olympic contenders were men and they also were naked because the Olympic games were usually held in the summer.
The Olympic games were usually played in a large outdoor courtyard with nine or ten sets of bleachers and about 1000-3000 people attended the games as spectators each year.
The first Olympic games was in Olympia which is where the games got its name from.
